UNLV PGA Golf Management Student Association

Welcome! The UNLV PGA Golf Management Program is accredited by the Professional Golfers' Association of America and administered through the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. The program’s students are members of the PGA Student Association (PGASA), and are led by a group of elected officers known as the Executive Board. The goal of the Executive Board is to enhance students’ experiences by providing social interaction, competitive golf tournaments, community involvement, and opportunities for professional development.

10-28-2011: UNLV and Penn State PGA Golf Management student leaders collaborate via on-line video conference

Thursday night, October 20th, elected student leaders from both UNLV and Penn State University PGA Golf Management Student Associations collaborated on practices relating to program activities leading to student retention, leadership, and philanthropy. The video conference served as a wonderful example of the benefits of collaboration and how technology can be used to bring leaders together despite location.

Comments from our Student Association President, Jonathan Caine:

"Not only has technology transformed the way we live and work, it connects us now more than ever before. PGM Student Associations share the same goals, yet, we have traditionally worked independently of each other. In the past, knowledge might be passed from individual to individual while working at an internship. However, groups of students sharing knowledge and working collaboratively towards a common goal are uncommon. UNLV and Penn State are hoping to change the way things are done. The first video-conference between PGM executive boards took place on October 20th, 2011. Jonathan Caine of UNLV and David Wilson of Penn State, presidents of their respective PGM Student Associations, planned an agenda based on a theme of student involvement and retention. “Although we have common goals, each of us brings our own unique perspective and strategies to the table”, says Jonathan Caine. David Wilson kicked off the meeting with a description of Penn State’s Alumni Mentor/Mentee Program. The video conference included discussions of student mentor programs, golf tournaments, social events, and wrapped up with each program sharing information on their cornerstone altruistic efforts: Penn State’s THON and UNLV’s Par for The Cure. With the help of video conferencing technology, PGM Programs no longer need to work in a silo. The ability to communicate at the touch of a button makes problem solving a collaborative effort between student associations possible. As a result, each program has the ability to learn from others mistakes and successes. Ultimately, the PGA PGM Programs will grow together and produce professionals where each student has an equal opportunity to develop in a connected educational environment."
09-03-2011: Upcoming Tournaments!

Our tournament season is set to begin. Our first tournament and Jones' Cup qualifier will be next Sunday, September 11, 2011. It is a 40 player field and we expect it to fill up fast so don't put off signing up. It will be the first round of our 36 hole stroke play playoff for two remaining spots for Jones' Cup. We will then make a cut to the top 8 and ties and have a second round TBD. The top 2 from this playoff will join Daniel Inocencio, Sean Kenney and Cam Alford as our five that will represent our program in Florida.

Second item, match play will begin September 12, 2011. We can take up to 64 players for this, we'd like as many as we can! Rules for this tournament are on the flyer and the tournament handbook which has our rules and regulations. Please read over it and be familiar with what is on it.

Third item, I will send a flyer out shortly but our second tournament is set for Angel Park on October 9, 2011. You will be able to sign up for that by next week.

Last, this is important!!!!.... You must be signed up and paid by the deadlines set or you will not receive a tee time. No exceptions! Be responsible and if you plan on signing up, it's better to do it early instead of putting it off until the end. I look forward to having a great tournament series this year as we start building points up for Director's Cup. We will go over all of this at our PGMSA meeting next week, so if you have any questions you can email me or ask at the meeting.

DEADLINES for Match Play and Silverstone are next Friday, Sept 9 at 3:00 pm.

DEADLINE for Angel Park will be Friday, Oct 7 at 3:00pm.
